Artist Statement

In my current work, I focus on making food because of how strongly it holds memories. Whether it’s self-soothing comfort meals, favorite after-school snacks, or food shared with loved ones, food has the ability to create connection and evoke emotion. These everyday moments around eating often stay with us long after they’ve passed.

Nostalgia plays a big role in my work. I’m inspired by bold pop art colors, and the crisp lines and repeating patterns of vintage tile, which often appear in the slab built bases of my pieces. These clean, structured forms reference kitchens and domestic spaces from the past. On top of them, I place half-eaten and sometimes messy food to create contrast and make my pieces feel more personal.

By sculpting food out of clay, I turn something temporary into something permanent, but still fragile like memory itself. I want my work to feel familiar, comforting, and a little bit lived in, inviting viewers to connect their own experiences to what they see.
